Ryan Lochte Scandal An Example Of Lesson Every Parent Tries to Teach Children

(INDEPENDENT JOURNAL REVIEW) – Lying. It’s something parents try to teach their children to never do.

At times, it can be cute. Like when a child tries to convince their mom that they didn’t eat the sprinkles:

But many times, lying can make a mess out of a lot of peoples lives.

Take American swimmer Ryan Lochte for example. On August 14th, Lochte allegedly told his mother that he was robbed at gun point at a gas station in Rio De Janiero.

Thinking Lochte was telling her the truth, his mother then told major news outlets about what had happened to her son. As it turns out, Lochte reportedly wasn’t telling the truth and made up the robbery to try and cover up an act of vandalism in a gas station bathroom, in which he and three of his teammates partook.

As a result of Lochte’s lie, three of his teammates were detained in Rio, a warrant was issued for Lochte’s arrest in Brazil, and upon returning to the U.S. he lost four of his sponsorships.

There is a lesson kids can take away from Lochte’s international scandal: Don’t lie to your parents.
