UC Irvine Is Offering E-Sports Scholarships

Scholarships used to involve long hours writing essays, or playing sports. But now, a new program at UC Irvine is allowing students to pay for school through e-sports scholarships.

UC Irvine is the first public university in the nation to offer scholarships to students to play for the college's e-sports team.

The program is just like any other, students are expected to show up for practice, meet a certain GPA standard, as well as sign a code of conduct. Video games they play include League of Legends, Starcraft and more.

Jo Kwon visited UC Irvine to find out how students are using the eSports to pay for school.
