Cubs Break The Curse And Defeat Indians To Win World Series

The Chicago Cubs are World Champions after defeating the Cleveland Indians 8-7. It took 108 years, 7 games, 10 innings and a rain delay for the Cubs to finally reach the pinnacle of the baseball world again. Ben Zobrist hit an RBI double in the top of the 10th to give the Cubs the lead and Miguel Montero hit an RBI single gave them an insurance run in a wild game 7 that will be talked about for years to come.

Dexter Fowler started off the game with a lead-off home run for the Cubs. Carlos Santana tied the game with an RBI single in the 3rd. The Cubs answered back with 2 runs in the 4th and 2 more in the 5th.

The Cubs plated two runs in the bottom of the 5th when Santana and Jason Kipnis scored on a wild pitch from Jon Lester. The Cubs got one run back in the 6th when David Ross hit a solo home run giving the Cubs a 6-3 lead.

That lead did not hold up. Aroldis Chapman gave up an RBI double to Brandon Guyer and a 2 run homer to Rajai Davis in the 8th inning as the Indians tied the score at 6.

After a scoreless 9th, the game was paused by a short rain delay. Coming out of the delay, the Cubs scored 2 runs in the 10th and Mike Montgomery came in to pitch in the bottom of the 10th to earn his first major league save.
