Sevyn Streeter Gets Redemption With Rescheduled 76ers National Anthem Performance

In late October, Sevyn Streeter made headlines when she took to social media to reveal that her booking to sing the National Anthem was nixed by the Philadelphia 76ers because the R&B singer was wearing a "We Matter" jersey.

Shortly afterwards, the team issued an apology to the 30-year-old star, admitting their mistake and inviting Streeter to return for a chance at redemption. And now, it appears as if they've come through with their promise.

On Saturday (November 5), the Associated Press reported that Sevyn will don her "We Matter" top when she performs the "Star Spangled Banner" at the Sixers' home game against the Los Angeles Lakers on December 16.

Sevyn, who took a bit of a break from Instagram after the controversy, returned to the social media platform on Sunday to share her thoughts on their apology and the forthcoming performance. "I have accepted their apology," Streeter wrote in the post. "In order to move forward, it was important to me that we take action and use this as an opportunity to create positive change and dialogue throughout the community."

Sevyn and the Sixers will continue to create that positive change on "multiple community outreach programs to promote inclusion and acceptance." The Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia will be their first organization to focus on and receive a donation from the basketball team in the coming future.
