Serena Williams defeated her sister, Venus Williams, to win the Australian Open.
The 6-4 6-4 victory gives Serena a record 23rd grand slam title in professional tennis. The win puts her ahead of Steffi Graf on the list of all-time slam winners and one win away from the long-standing record of 24 held by Margaret Court in both amateur and professional tennis. At age 35, Serena Williams is also the oldest major champion in the Open Era.
Tennis great Billie Jean King sent a shout-out to Serena after her big win. King tweeted congratulations to Serena today, calling her a "history maker and a trailblazer."
Roger Federer faces Rafael Nadal in the men's final tomorrow. The 35-year-old Federer is vying for his fifth Aussie title and first since 2010. He has 17 major singles titles overall. The 30-year-old Nadal is seeking his second career title Down Under and 15th major championship.
