For the first time ever, a father and son have led their respective schools to the NCAA Tournament in the same season. Louisville head coach Rick Pitino and his son, Minnesota head coach Richard Pitino, are both in the Big Dance this year. The Cardinals are the second-seed in the South Region, while the Golden Gophers earned a five-seed in the Midwest.
The younger Pitino served as an assistant under his father for three seasons at Louisville.
