Astros ride HR barrage to first-ever World Series victory

The Houston Astros picked up their first World Series victory in franchise history on Wednesday night, storming back late for an extra-innings comeback win.

Now, the series shifts back to Houston tied at one game a piece.

The Astros — who trailed 3-1 late — finished the contest by going 9-of-20 at the plate with four home runs over the course of the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th innings. Outfielder George Springer delivered the game-winning hit in the top of the 11th, a two-run home run blast that lifted the Astros to a 7-6 Game 2 victory.

In addition to the Astros making history with their first World Series win, both teams set a Fall Classic record with eight combined home runs. Pederson, Seager, Yasiel Puig and Charlie Culberson went deep for the Dodgers, while Springer, Marwin Gonzalez, Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa did so for Houston. It was Gonzalez's solo home run in the top of the ninth that sent the game to extra innings.

The Dodgers appeared in position to win, taking a 3-1 lead into the eighth following a pair of home runs from Joc Pederson and Corey Seager in the previous two innings. Astros third baseman Alex Bregman led off with a ground-rule double, however, sparking Houston's game-changing rally.
