Dodgers ride Bellinger's big night to crucial Game 4 victory

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Cody Bellinger entered Saturday night's Game 4 showdown with the Houston Astros struggling mightily, batting 0-for-11 with seven strikeouts through three games in the World Series.

He made his exit as the undoubted star of the evening.

Bellinger went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, scoring a game-tying run in the seventh before driving in Corey Seager on the game-winning RBI in the ninth. The Dodgers scored four more runs in the top half of the inning — including a three-run blast from Joc Pederson — before handing the ball to All-Star Kenley Jansen to close out a 6-2 victory that evened the series at 2-2.

A pair of elite performances from the night's starting pitchers set the stage for a low-scoring game until the late innings.

Alex Wood gave the Dodgers 5.2 innings, allowing just one hit on the day. That lone hit, however, came on a solo home run by George Springer for the first run of the game. Manager Dave Roberts would immediately replace Wood with reliever Brandon Morrow.

Charlie Morton was equally dominant for Houston, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out seven in 6.1 innings pitched. Morton was pulled from the game with Dodgers rookie Cody Bellinger on second base, and would be charged with his only earned run after an RBI single from Logan Forsythe tied things up in the seventh.

Both team's also received admirable outings from their bullpens — with the exception of Astros in the ninth inning. Closer Ken Giles gave up two hits and the winning run without recording a single out, and would be charged with two more earned runs after he was removed. Reliever Joe Musgrove was tagged for another two earned runs as Los Angeles blew the game open.

The lone bullpen mistake for the Dodgers came as Jansen gave up a solo home run to Alex Bregman in the ninth.

Game 5 will be held Sunday in Houston, with first pitch scheduled for 7:20PM local time (CT).
