Three Cities File Suit Against Defense Department

Several cities are suing the Defense Department over a gun loophole that allowed the Texas church shooter to buy his guns.  San Francisco, New York City and Philadelphia filed a lawsuit alleging that the DOD has failed many times to advise the FBI about former servicemen who are prohibited from buying firearms.  The lawsuit says the DOD's failure to report servicemen convicted of crimes while in the military, or dishonorably discharged, has led to tragedies such as the November 5th shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, carried out by a dishonorably discharged Air Force member.

The lawsuit states that without such information, those former service members are able to illegally buy guns.  It also seeks more oversight to make sure the DOD properly reports such information to the FBI.
