Medical researchers believe pet dogs might help them learn more about treating a deadly brain cancer in people. The disease is glioblastoma. Scientists at the University of Minnesota are beginning a five year research project to find ways to improve treatment of dogs with the disease. Researchers say their findings could be useful in human clinical treatment trials. Half the people diagnosed with it live fewer than 14 months, even after surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.
Dogs are typically euthanized soon after they're diagnosed with glioblastoma.
