Doctor's License Suspended For Reusing Catheters

A New Jersey surgeon accused of inserting used catheters into the rectums of at least 5 patients has had his license yanked.  State authorities claim Doctor Sanjiv K. Patankar  re-used rectal catheters on multiple patients over the course of nearly a year.  He allegedly ran out of catheters and replacement supplies were on backorder.

State medical officials also accuse Dr. Patankar of telling his assistants to wash the used catheters in soap and water, soak them in bleach solution for a half-hour, and then rinse and air dry them.
