The identities of four people slain in a vicious quadruple homicide earlier this week in Troy, New York have been revealed by authorities.
Troy Police Chief John Tedesco said mother Shanta Myers (age 36) was killed alongside her partner Brandi Mells (22) and her two children, Shanise (5) and Jeremiah (11).
"After being in this business for 42 years, I can't describe the savagery of a person who would do this," the police chief said. "Only a person of savagery would do something like this.”
Myers, the mother of both children was reportedly in a relationship with Mells Tedesco said. Investigators say the killings were "not a random act," but they did not elaborate why they believed that was the case.
A property manager discovered the bodies Tuesday afternoon after being asked to conduct a welfare check on the residents inside. Police say they don't know exactly when the murders occurred, but detectives hope to find more clues after autopsies were complete. Police refused to comment on the method in which they were killed or whether any weapons were found at the scene.
"I don't think there's any doubt that a person who committed this crime is capable of anything," Tedesco said.
Officials say they do not believe there is an imminent danger to the public.
