Mormon Church President Dies

The Mormon church says President Thomas S. Monson has passed away.  Monson became president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2008.  The Mormon church faced intense public scrutiny during Monson's term, including a divisive vote over gay marriage, a hotly-debated policy for same-sex couples, and a high-profile Mormon candidate for U.S. President.

A church spokesman says Monson passed away Tuesday night at his home in Salt Lake City at the age of 90.
