Dow Tops 25,000 Mark For First Time

Winter Storm Grayson didn't slow down Wall Street on Thursday (January 4) as the Dow Jones Industrial Average passed the 25,000 mark for the first time ever. Business Insider says that the jump from 24,0000 to 25,000 was the fastest the Dow has climbed 1,000 points. The Dow hit 24,000 back on November 30th.

The markets received good news with reports from ADP and Moody's Analytics that showed companies hired 250,000 new workers to close out 2017.  That's well above the Wall Street expectations of 190,000. December was the best month for job creation, topping 185,000 in November, a number that was revised lower by 5,000

Shortly after the Dow hit the milestone President Trump took to Twitter and said that the cuts in regulation will continue as the markets continue to soar.

The job growth was spread out across multiple sectors.  Professional and business services led the way by adding 72,000 new positions.  The education and health services sector added 50-thousand jobs.  Trade, transportation and utilities contributed 45-thousand jobs.  Payrolls related to Wall Street grew by 19,000.
