For the first time ever, the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art is planning to charge an admission fee. President and CEO of the MET Daniel Weiss says that beginning March 1st, it's abandoning its "pay-what-you-wish" policy and will charge a mandatory $25 fee for those who don't live in New York State. Weiss says those who live in-state will still be allowed to "pay-what-you-wish."
"The New York Times" says the move is part of the museum's plan to be profitable after encountering financial difficulty in recent years due to decreased voluntary contributions from visitors.
