People living in the Northeast are bracing for a weekend of dangerously cold temperatures as they dig out from Winter storm Grayson. The massive storm brought hurricane force winds and dumped over a foot of snow in some places in New England. As the storm moves out of the area, it is being replaced by an arctic blast that will result in record low temperatures across the region.
The Weather Channel reports that Boston, New York City and Philadelphia could all set new record lows this weekend:
Daily record lows within reach Sunday morning include (record to beat is shown): Boston (minus 2 degrees); New York City (4 degrees); Philadelphia (4 degrees); Providence (minus 1 degree).
Wind chill warnings, watches and advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service across the Northeast, Midwest and South. In some places the wind chill could get as low as minus 45 degrees.
The high winds and cold air could make temperatures feel as low as 15 to 25 degrees below zero from Philadelphia to Boston. States further south are not immune from the cold with temperatures in Maryland and Virginia predicted to be in the low to mid teens. Further south, residents in Alabama and Georgia are looking at temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees while the temperature in Northern Florida will struggle to reach above freezing.
The cold blast is expected to last through the weekend with average temperatures returning early next week.
