Authorities in Florida are releasing the audio of a 9-1-1 call made on New Year's Eve when a drunk driver called the emergency line on himself. Polk County Sheriff's Deputies said 39-year-old Michael Lester called 9-1-1 to report he was driving drunk and needed to pull over. They say Lester admitted to driving the wrong way and that he had been driving drunk "all night" and was "trying to get pulled over."
KHQ reported that the dispatcher kept Lester on the phone until he said he was going to "get something to eat" and let the cops "catch up with me" before he hung up the phone. With the dispatcher's assistance, deputies caught up with Lester and took him into custody.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, when they tracked down his red Ford F150, half of his truck was in a left turn lane, and the other half was on the wrong side of the road.
He told police he had only slept four hours in the past four days, and that he had done meth earlier that morning.
He initially told deputies he drank two beers but later said it may have been three or four. Lester said he had only slept four hours during the past four days, and told deputies he had swallowed meth early that morning, according to an arrest report.
He's charged with driving under the influence, driving on the wrong side of the road and not wearing a seat belt.
