Nan Hauser was snorkeling off the coast of the Cook Islands in October when a 15-foot tiger shark started stalking her in the water. Luckily, for Nan she had a giant friend in the water who helped protect her from the prowling predator.
According to the Daily Mirror, a 50,00-pound humpback whale came to her rescue and shielded her from the shark while she swam back to the safety of her boat. Nan was able to capture the amazing footage and posted the video online.
At the time, Nan did not realize there was a tiger shark nearby, and was confused as to why the massive whale was pushing her with it's head and mouth, which left her with some bruises:
I wasn't sure what the whale was up to when he approached me, and it didn't stop pushing me around for over 10 minutes. It seemed like hours. I was a bit bruised up.
She said a second whale was nearby and was slapping it's tail to keep the shark away from her and her new whale friend.
Once she was back on the safety of her boat, she said the whale surfaced to check in on her and ensure that she was safe.
