A teacher in Louisiana was removed from a school board meeting and later arrested after she confronted the board over teacher's pay.
Deyshia Hargrave, an English language arts teacher at Rene Rost Middle School, was speaking during the public comments portion of the Vermilion Parish school board meeting. Hargrave was asking the board about teacher's salaries and why the board was considering a $38,000 raise for the superintendent, instead of the teachers.
Hargrave said she had an issue with a superintendent or any person in leadership getting a raise before teachers.
“I feel like it’s a slap in the face to all the teachers, cafeteria workers and any other support staff we have. We work very hard, with very little, to maintain the salaries we have," Hargrave said.
Hargrave was told she was out of order and the public comments time was not for question-and-answers.
The teacher was later called on again and asked the board another question. That's when she was removed from the meeting by an Abbeville city marshal and handcuffed outside.
The school board said they did not plan on pressing charges against the teacher, however, Hargrave was booked into the city jail after being forbidden and resisting an officer.
