The Department of Homeland Security says drivers licenses from all 50 states can be used to board flights. The Department of Homeland Security says all 50 states have met the January 22nd deadline to comply with Real ID rules or have been granted an extension. Starting on October 1, 2020, adults boarding flights in the U.S. must show a Real ID license, passport or other form of enhanced ID at security checkpoints. 26 states are currently on extensions, the rest are already fully compliant with the law.
Congress raised the security standards for state-issued licenses following the 9-11 terror attacks.
