Democrats have been questioning President Trump's mental fitness to hold the office ever since he announced his candidacy. Those questions have only grown louder since his election, and some have suggested using the 25th amendment to remove Trump because they believe he is unfit to hold office.
The idea of removing Trump got a boost when Yale psychology professor Bandy Lee publicly questioned the President's mental state in an interview with Vox and had meetings with Democratic lawmakers over the issue.
While Lee was careful to say she was not diagnosing the president, which would be in violation the Goldwater Rule that bars members of the American Psychiatric Association from publicly discussing the mental health of a public figure, she heavily implied he is mentally unstable and therefore dangerous.
As journalists began to look into Lee, and check her qualifications, Campus Reform discovered the Lee is not a licensed psychiatrist. They unearthed records from the state of Connecticut, which show her physician/surgeon expired in May of 2015, and her controlled substance registration for practitioner license lapsed in February of 2017.
When asked for a comment about her expired licenses, Lee told Campus Reform "I need only one license," but the site could not find any record of it.
Following Lee's interview with Vox, the American Psychiatric Association, blasted psychiatrists who attempt to diagnose public figures:
Arm-chair psychiatry or the use of psychiatry as a political tool is the misuse of psychiatry and is unacceptable and unethical.
