Former White House adviser Steve Bannon is set to appear before the House Intelligence Committee next week as part of its investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. According to Reuters, the closed-door testimony will focus on Bannon's work with the Trump campaign. He is not expected to discuss his role in the Trump White House with the committee.
The Daily Beast reports say Bannon has hired Bill Burck a prominent Washington DC lawyer in preparation for the interview. The Daily Beast points out that Burck also "represents White House Counsel Don McGahn and former Chief of Staff Reince Priebus for the purposes of the Russia probe."
Bannon had avoided getting publicly involved in the investigation of possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign, until incendiary quotes attributed to him were published a book offering a critical look at the Trump White House. Those quotes led to a feud between Trump and Bannon, which is reported to be the catalyst that resulted in Bannon leaving his position at Breitbart News.
