Two officers who were in command of the USS Fitzgerald and USS John McCain respectively during deadly accidents are being charged with negligent homicide. The accused will have a hearing to determine if the officers should face a court-martial on the charges. Each are also facing charges of dereliction of duty and hazarding a vessel. Several other sailors are also being charged. The collision last June between the USS Fitzgerald and a container ship left seven crew members dead.
10 sailors died in the collision between the McCain and a merchant ship last August.
