U.S. South Getting Hit With Winter Storm

More than 80,000,000 people from Texas to Maine are under winter storm alerts.  A mix of snow, freezing rain and bitter cold is making life miserable for much of the country.  The South is getting hit particularly hard since residents there are not accustomed to frequent severe winter weather conditions.  As of last night, Houston police were reporting 278 traffic accidents, with more than 100 of them considered major. A homeless person in south Houston died of exposure.

Air travel is also a mess, with over 1,000  flights cancelled at Texas airports.   Snow is expected from northeast Texas into parts of Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia.
