The singer-songwriter and former American Idol contestant quietly welcomed her second child with husband Tyler Ward. Ward, a singer-songwriter, producer and founder of Nashville, Tennessee-based creative community Song House, was first to share the news on Instagram on September 18. He captioned a video, “My Songhouse homework is late, but I have a pretty good excuse… WE HAD A BABY BOY 😭💙 Still at the hospital, but I promised I’d do my homework, so here it is. A little late, a whole lot happy. …YAY! 🥹” Ward responded to one of the commenters, “Momma is doing great, we’re both just soaking him in.” In another reply, he said “we’re over the moon.”

Russell and her husband, Tyler Ward, announced in late February that she was pregnant with Baby No. 2. Russell said she had “a surprise,” and she and her firstborn daughter revealed to Ward that another baby would join the family this year. This spring, the two singer-songwriters shared “the best video ever,” which captured the moment they learned a baby boy was on the way.

Russell previously told PEOPLE that “as weird as this sounds, I literally heard, I felt like I heard God tell me, 'Emmy, you're pregnant, and your baby is Radiant.’” That moment — and Ward’s middle name, Ray — inspired Taylor Ray’s name.

Russell, granddaughter of late legend Loretta Lynn, is one of several artists to welcome a baby into the family in 2026. Thomas Rhett, Luke Combs, Parker McCollum, iHeartRadio’s Bobby Bones and others welcomed babies earlier this year. Russell Dickerson, Conner Smith, Mitchell Tenpenny and Meghan Patrick, and others also announced babies on the way. See the list of pregnancy announcements here.
