Emergency rooms in Syracuse have so many flu patients that they had to temporarily turn away ambulances. Though this "diversion" generally happens each year around the flu season, the intensity of the flu caused the "diversion" to stay in effect between Jan. 1 and Jan. 21, which is much higher than previous years.
